Aimee Carty is an Irish singer-songwriter from Ballygar, a rural town in County Galway, known for her relatable, self-penned songs that capture the transitions of young adulthood.

Carty grew up in Ballygar near the Roscommon border and attended Coláiste Mhuire secondary school before enrolling as a student at University College Dublin. Her music career gained early local recognition in March 2023 when she placed as a finalist in Galway Bay FM’s A New Local Hero competition with her original song “One Day You Will Fly Too.” Carty’s breakthrough came in late 2023 with the release of “Two Days Into College,” a piano-driven track she recorded in her bedroom that humorously depicts the stresses of starting university life, including falling behind on lectures and navigating early romances. The song went viral on TikTok after U.S. college basketball player Jared McCain shared a video reciting its lyrics to his 2 million followers on February 3, 2024, leading to over 4 million views, 3.3 million likes, and widespread trends among Generation Z users worldwide (as of February 2024). Its popularity surged further when Kim Kardashian’s daughter, North West, lip-synced to it in a video posted to her family’s TikTok account with 18.3 million followers, cementing the track as an international anthem for young students.

Since her viral success, Carty has built a growing discography of singles, including “Baker” (July 2024), “Our Flame,” and the reflective holiday-inspired “Younger Me” (December 2024), which she described as a letter to her younger self about personal growth.[2][3] Her music, often shared initially via social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube, emphasizes themes of nostalgia, empathy, and youthful challenges, earning praise from fans, educators, and her alma mater Coláiste Mhuire, which publicly celebrated her achievements. As of February 2024, Carty had amassed hundreds of thousands of followers across streaming services and social media, positioning her as an emerging voice in contemporary Irish pop-folk.
